About

I am a native Houstonian who has lived in the city off and on for about 35 years. I  enjoy Houston's vibrant art community, and I hope to accomplish as much in the art arena as I have as a cancer researcher. My art is mainly a product of my enjoyment of engaging in a creative process in my free time that one day perhaps can visually enrich my surroundings or that of others. Although I originally started out with a paintbrush and charcoal pencil some time ago, my artwork medium has progressed recently to exclusively digital creations, predominately collages and geometric abstractions. My interest in digital art evolved from desktop publishing, which I use routinely as a scientist.

I particularly enjoy creating composite transparency images of photographs taken around town, etc. While collages are a common form of two-dimensional art, my style for these collections is unique, since it blends shapes, textures, colors, and shades via a digital process called alpha compositing. The resulting compound images are captivating and they require what I will call “active viewing” to really appreciate. This “active viewing”, or looking into the work, facilitates finding something new about the piece each time you see it. These collages are a wonderful visual diary of my day-to-day experiences.

Regarding my geometric abstractions, the digital workspace facilitates the creation of intricate, precision images. The color composition, depth, and motion conveyed in these pieces are both vibrant and absorbing. I enjoy playing with the illusion of movement or changing perspective in these works, which increases in direct proportion to the size of the image.
